Obituary

Paul Mark Rose, age 62 of Lakeview passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 in Georgia. Paul was born on September 10, 1956 in Mt Clemens, Michigan to Edward and Thelma (Thomas) Rose and later graduated from Newaygo High School in 1974. Paul joined the Navy following graduation where he was stationed in Keflavik, Iceland and also served on the air craft carrier, USS Saratoga. Upon completion of his military service, Paul returned to Michigan and enrolled in Grand Rapids Community College where he earned his certification in Criminal Justice/Police Science. Paul was hired by the Miami-Dade police department in 1981, where he spent a year on the force. Paul later returned to Michigan and in 1983 he attended the first Michigan State Police Motor Carrier School and worked for this division of the Michigan State Police until 1984, when he was hired as a Conservation Officer for the Department of Natural Resources. Paul retired from the DNR in 2004 and moved to Westcliffe, Colorado where he operated Stanwood Motorsports West for many years. Paul was passionate about the outdoors and wildlife and spent a great deal of time in and around both. He loved the profession he chose as a DNR officer as it afforded him the opportunity to serve and educate people out in nature. He shared many times that he was truly fortunate to be paid to do what he loved and do it alongside his brothers in uniform. Paul is survived by his son, Kyle, of Westcliffe, Colorado; special friend, Julie Houghton of Lakeview, Michigan; his sisters, Vicki (Al) Couturier of Mena, Arkansas; Traci Marshall of Newaygo; his father, Edward Rose of Lady Lake, Florida; nephew Arron (Devin) Marshall of Grand Rapids; niece, Tricia (Jeremy) Siegers of Mansfield, Texas; his faithful dogs, Chance and Baby Girl; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends.
