Obituary

Pauline Haveman lived a full and devoted life of Christian faith and service fully committed to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! She was born on November 16, 1926 in Holland to Bert and Cornelia (Rozema) Sybesma, and she peacefully passed away in Fremont on May 12,2014. She married Dr. Marvin J. Haveman on April 19, 1945 in Grand Rapids, and he preceded her in death on October 29, 1963. Pauline has been a life-long resident of the Newaygo County area, where she had been a bookkeeper at the Grant Hospital, Grant Public Schools, and later retired from Haveman Pharmacy in Newaygo in 1999. Pauline enjoyed playing golf in her younger years, was a long-time volunteer lighthouse keeper at Big Sable Point Lighthouse in Ludington, and traveled 14 years on mission trips to Mexico and Zuni Christian Mission School in New Mexico. Pauline loved solving crossword puzzles (in ink), Sudoku, and board games of all kinds. A gentle, but fiercely-competitive person, she insisted on playing by her own rules! Pauline is survived by: her children, Larry and Linda Haveman of Byron Center; Kathy and Dale Painter of Newaygo; Ted and Sandy Haveman of Fremont; and Marge and Jerry Tibbe of Newaygo; and daughter-in-law, Julie Haveman of Grand Rapids; 11 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; her sisters, Ella and Roy Johnson of Grand Rapids, and Pat and Clifford Muller of Byron Center, and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her sister, Jean Reed and husband, Bob; her son, Steve Haveman on January 4, 2010; and her brother, Lawrence Sybesma. Fully-assured that she is resting eternally in our Lords loving arms, we celebrate a life well-lived.
