Rev. R. William Scheer was taken to his heavenly home on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001 in Fremont, MI. He was born and baptized on Dec. 23, 1918 in Strasburg, IL to Albert and Pauline Scheer and married Lois Recknagel in Muskegon on Aug. 14, 1943 . He dedicated his life to his family and to the service of Jesus Christ. He celebrated 60 years of ministry in September 2000. Twenty-two years of his service were as a parochial teacher and principal at the following schools, Trinity Lutheran in Muskegon; Peace Lutheran in Detroit; St. Johns Lutheran in Grand Haven; and Immanuel Lutheran in Springfield, IL. He later served as pastor for 38 years at Burt and Swea City, Iowa; Wisconsin Dells and Lyndon Station, WI; and Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fremont, MI. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Lois of Fremont: 2 sons, Rev. Scott (Cheri) Scheer of Clyde, North Carolina; Rev. Steven (Cheryl) Scheer of Gaylord, MI; 5 daughters: Sandra (Rev. Henry) Wesenberg of Fostoria, MI; Jolyn (Ron) Kempf of Fremont; Karen (William) Hutton of Muskegon; Kristen (Dr. Tim) VanKoevering of Fremont; Elaine (Rev. Ron) Lehenbauer of Lake Ozark, MN; 25 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Ruth Seppamaki of Muskegon; Gertrude (Erwin) Steinmeyer of Palos Verdes, CA; Vera Reck of Culpeper, VA. He was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Albert in 1948. Funeral services were held on Monday, February 26, 2001 from the Trinity Lutheran Church in Muskegon with Pastor Dennis Lassanske of the Trinity Lutheran Church presiding with interment following in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont.
