Ralph Marvin Horrocks, age 89, of Fremont passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2016, at his home. Ralph was born on June 14, 1926, in Ionia County to Alfred Van and Irma Lillian (Martin) Horrocks and married Elizabeth Henning on September 8, 1950 in Detroit. Ralph was a meat inspector for the State of Michigan retiring in 1981 after 32 years of service. Ralph proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII on the USS Bremerton. He was a member of the State Retirees Association, life member of the Hesperia Arcana Masonic Lodge #346, life member of Ionia Belding Masonic Lodge #355, Life member of Oceana Wigton Benona Masonic Lodge #200, life member of the Shelby American Legion Post #30, and life member of the Newaygo VFW Post #4249. Ralph is survived by his children, Sandra Horrocks of Colorado, Nancy (Ralph) Bittner of Vassar, Blaine (Nathalie) Horrocks of Maine, Judy (Philip) Knape of Newaygo, and Steven (Jackie) Horrocks of Zeeland; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth in 2011; and 4 brothers, Alfred, Norris, Milo, and Terry. Services will be held on Friday, May 6, 2016, at 2 PM at the Crandell Funeral Home in Fremont. There will be a time to visit with the family one hour prior to the service (1 2 PM). Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
