Randall L. "Randy" Root Sr., age 81 of Fremont, formerly of Muskegon, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2020 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont. Randy was born on January 4, 1939 in Kalamazoo to Robert and Jessie (Wilson) Root. Randy married Patricia Lee in 2013 and she preceded him in death. Randy had been a crane operator at Weaver's Rag and Metal in Grand Haven for several years and also worked as a crane operator in Oklahoma for a period of time. Randy moved to the Fremont area in 2017 from Muskegon where he had been a resident for many years. Randy enjoyed fishing, fixing cars, his dog, Willy and traveling back and forth to California which he did over 20 times. Randy has been an accomplished guitar player all his life, but especially treasured the time he spent with his family. Randy is survived by his children, David (Julie) Root of Stanwood; Renae (Kelly) Mahn of Baldwin; Becki (Kevin) Gibson of White Cloud; Randy Root Jr. of Newaygo; 11 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; his sisters, Nancy (Charlie) Pettit of California; Sue Eastman of California; Deb Barner of California; Rick (Pat) Root Sr. of Holton; several nieces and nephews. Randy was preceded in death by his brother, Bob Root and his sister, Dee Kapphahn. A Gathering to celebrate and remember Randy will be held in the summer of 2021 and service information will be updated on this web page when service dates and times are finalized.
