Raymond A. Brickey, age 81 of Wayland, formerly of Fremont and Hesperia, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2009 at his daughters home in Wayland following a long illness. Ray was born on November 14, 1927 in Hesperia to Herbert W. and Ferne (Frink) Brickey and graduated from Hesperia High School in 1946. Ray met and later married Linda Kirchenbauer on February 26, 1965 in Holton. Ray had been a meat inspector for the State of Michigan for many years until his retirement in 1983. Ray was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War where he served in the United States Marine Corps and had been a charter member of the Hesperia American Legion. Ray enjoyed raising, breeding and showing horses, gardening, and reading western books, especially Louis LAmour. Ray especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Linda of Wayland; his daughters, Sara Brickey of Juneau, Alaska; Lynnie (Jay) Anderson of Georgetown, Kentucky; Cristi (Jim) Brophy of Wayland; his grandchildren, Amber & Dylin Anderson; Seth Brickey; Cordy, Jolin, Cale and Jaxon Brophy; his sister, Doris Smith of Hesperia; Joyce Wilkerson of Lowell; several nieces and nephews. Ray was preceded in death by his brother, Herbert Brickey and his sisters, Mercile Myers and Annie Sumner. VISITATION : Monday from 5-8pm at Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel. FUNERAL SERVICES : Tuesday at 1pm at the Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel. MILITARY RITES and INTERMENT : West Hesperia Cemetery.
