Raymond R. Vanover, age 85 of Holton, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2011 at his home following a lingering illness. Raymond was born on November 22, 1926 in Ubank, Kentucky to Earl and Elsie (Pumpfrey) Vanover and later married Eileen Pat Hill on July 23, 1977 in Muskegon. Ray has been a resident of the Holton area for the past 30 years where he was a member of the Fremont Christian Church, Disciples of Christ where he had been a active member and served as an Elder and Deacon in the church. Ray had owned and operated Vanover Plumbing and Heating in Muskegon for 27 years and later owned and operated Fremont Plumbing and Heating for 10 years until his retirement. Ray had also been the mechanical inspector for the County of Newaygo County for several years and volunteered at the Newaygo County Vocational Center in the building trades department. Ray had served on the school board at the Newaygo County Vocational Center, was a member of the Muskegon County Coon Hunting Club; and was a member of the Plumbers Union Local #174. Ray enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, traveling, being in the Michigan outdoors and farming. Ray had served in the United States Army during World War II. Ray is survived by his wife of 34 years, Eileen Pat Vanover of Holton; his children, Ron (Joan) Vanover of Grant; Chris (Casey) Vanover of Holton; Kevin Vanover of Holton; Sandra Hammond of Detroit; Donna (Keith) Buchanan of Oring, Washington; Michelle Vanover of Holton; 10 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; his brothers, David (Marsha) Vanover of Grant; Gilbert (Jeanie) Vanover of Grant; sister-in-law, Sally Osborn; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Lester Osborn, Chester Osborn, Emma Singleton, Ella Bicker. VISITATION : Tuesday, November 29, 2011 from 2-4 & 6-8 at Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel. FUNERAL SERVICES : Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 11:00am at the Fremont Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Fremont. INTERMENT : Bridgeton Township Cemetery.
