Obituary

Rex LeRoy Crofoot, age 87 of Grandville, formerly of Sparta, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans in Grand Rapids. Rex was born on January 9, 1927 in Big Prairie Township to Everett and Margaretta (Ehlers) Crofoot graduated from Newaygo High School, although Rex had already enlisted in the United States Army and was not present at his graduation. Rex served his country in United States Army during World War II. After his return to the White Cloud area, he married Barbara J. Martin on February 7, 1948 in White Cloud and they lived in the Sparta area for 40 years until they moved to Grandville. Rex had worked at Able Grinding and Machining in Grand Rapids until his retirement. Rex was a 50 year member of the Sparta United Methodist Church where he had been active in all the offices and positions at the church. Rex enjoyed fishing, traveling, camping, reading, picking berries, playing cards and M&Ms. Rex truly enjoyed spending time with his family. Rex was a wonderful husband and father and was one of a kind Rex is survived by his wife of 66 years, Barbara of Grandville; his children, Alice (Randy) Zuidema of Grandville; James Crofoot of Wyoming; Carol Rummelt of Kentwood; Mary Foley of Howard City; his grandchildren, Amy (David) Furman, Wendy (Jeff) Winston, Scott (Dawn) Zuidema, Angela Crofoot, Sarah (Michelle) Crofoot; Jameson Crofoot, Tracey Robinson, Matthew Rummelt, Emilie Goldner, Zachary Foley, Briana Foley; 13 great grandchildren; his foster brother, Harry (Shirley) Baker Jr. of Newaygo. Rex was preceded in death by his sisters, Ellen Baker and Margaret McCombs. VISITATION : Saturday, June 28, 2014 from 2-4 & 6-8 at Crandell Funeral Home White Cloud Chapel. Private graveside services will be held at the White Cloud Cemetery at a later date. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.
