Richard A. "Rich" Tanis, age 56 of Fremont, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at the Trinity Health Mercy Campus in Muskegon. Rich was born on May 19, 1966 in Fremont to Gilbert and Marjorie (Bergklint) Tanis Jr. Rich graduated from Fremont High School in 1984 and later graduated from Muskegon Community College with an Associate Degree in Electronics. Rich married Tracy Westcott on August 29, 1987 in Fremont and has been a lifelong resident of the Fremont area. Rich had been a calibration engineer for over 20 years at MD Instruments in Muskegon and was currently a maintenance technician at Canon – Muskegon. Rich enjoyed working at his job, enjoyed hunting, was always tinkering in his garage, and was involved with the Braunschweiger Blues Band for many years. Rich was enjoying life to its fullest right now– spending time at "The Acres", his cabin especially treasured time spent with his grandchildren. Rich is survived by his wife of 35 years, Tracy of Fremont; his children and grandchildren – Alyssa (Ryan) Priest and their daughter, Morgan of Norton Shores; Brent (Kasey Benton) Tanis and their children, Everly and Jamison of Fremont; his sisters, Denise Burkle of Fremont; Tammy (Dan) Lockwood of Fremont; several nieces, nephews and many cousins; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Howard and Corrine Westcott; brother-in-law, Mark (Pam) Westcott. Rich was preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie Tanis in 1995 and by his father, Gilbert "Gil" Tanis in 2018.
