Richard E. Barrett, age 86 of Fremont, passed away April 25, 2015 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility following a lingering illness. Richard was born on May 31, 1928 in Newark, Ohio to Monte E. and Florence (Lannigan) Barrett and later married Betty Holton on August 21, 1948 at the Rocky Fork Church of Christ. Richard had been a sales representative for Behler Young Company in Grand Rapids for many years until his retirement in 1993. Richard and Betty moved to the Fremont area in 1974 from Grand Rapids where he was a member of the Fremont Christian Disciples of Christ Church in Fremont, had served as elder for many years and was Elder Emeritus. Richard enjoying being on the water boating, sailing, waterskiing and had enjoyed traveling. Richard was also a veteran of World War II where he served in the United States Navy. Richard is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty of Fremont; his children, Donald Barrett of Bradenton, Florida; Deborah Lusk of Fremont; Denise Dee (David) Steele of Fremont and Plant City, Florida; 8 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; his brother, James Barrett of Washington, D.C. Richard was preceded in death by his sister, Jackie Lou Barrett and his brother, Michael Barrett. VISITATION : Tuesday from 4-7pm at Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel and Wednesday from 1-2pm at the Fremont Christian Church. FUNERAL SERVICES : Wednesday at 2pm at the Fremont Christian Church Disciples of Christ 10 E. Elm Street Fremont with military rites following at the church. INTERMENT : Maple Grove Cemetery. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : Fremont Christian Church Jingle Box Fund.
