Richard "Dick" Claude Kobylski, age 74, of White Cloud passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Mission Point of Big Rapids surrounded by family. Richard was born on October 15, 1949, in Pigeon, Michigan to Edward and Clara Belle (Robinson) Kobylski and later married Rita Marie Theeuwes on April 10, 2010.
Richard's early career as a mechanic brought him to Traverse City, where he began working at Traverse Motors. Over time he advanced to the role of General Manager and part owner while helping to grow the business, and expand its offerings to multiple brands. After more than 20 years Richard moved to Muskegon, and later to York Pennsylvania, managing larger dealerships throughout his career.
Richard loved the outdoors. He began hunting deer at an early age together with his father. Over time he became a prolific sportsman traveling from the mountains of Wyoming to the costal shores of Maryland pursuing mule deer, upland game, and waterfowl. As a father himself he shared his love of nature with his children, helping to build their outdoor skills and teaching lessons while exploring the woods, lakes, and rivers of Northern Michigan together.
Never one to be idle, Richard filled his time with an expansive list of hobbies including freshwater fishing, fly fishing, grilling, woodworking, home building, and Nordic skiing. He pursued his passions in all their forms, always working to improve his skills, take on new challenges, and expand his abilities. He built a beautiful home on the shores of Fife Lake, renovated a centennial house in Muskegon, and restored a historic farm house in Hellam Pennsylvania. He explored the deep woods of Michigan, traveled the across the US, Europe, the Bahamas, Alaska, and dived the Great Barrier Reef of Australia. He skied mountains from Canada to Colorado and fished the waters everywhere in-between. He enjoyed the solitude of the woods from his deer blinds, just as much as the comradery of friends and family on fishing boats.
He retired with his loving Wife, Rita, to a secluded home on the banks of the White River where they spent time with friends, family, and their many pets. Together they enjoyed the quiet pleasure of watching and listening to the peaceful water flow by.
Most of all Richard will be remembered fondly for his kindness and honesty, a willingness to do, to help, and to teach. He was a man who did all things wholeheartedly, with a smile and an unrestrained contagious laugh. The impact he had with his wisdom and generosity was felt and will be carried on by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
Richard is survived by his wife, Rita; children, Kevin (Carrie) Kobylski, Kyle (Erika) Kobylski, stepdaughter, Ashley Lichner of Muskegon; grandchildren, Isaac, Gavin, and Wyatt; and sister Carol (Paul) Bechtol of Eagle, Michigan.
