Richard A. Conley, age 79 of Fremont, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at his home. Dick was born on November 8, 1937 in Carrollton, Michigan to Frank and Mamie (Sabraw) Conley and graduated from St. Andrews High School in 1956 in Saginaw and later attended and graduated from Western Michigan Univesity in 1965. Dick married Maxine Nerychel on May 5, 1962 in Saginaw. Dick moved to the Fremont area in 1966 from Saginaw and started working in the market research department at Gerber Products Company for 30 years until his retirement in 1995. Dick was an active member of the All Saints Catholic Church where he had been a Eucharistic Minister, Lector and had served on the Parish Council. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #3111 where he was a past Grand Knight. Dick was elected to the Fremont City Council in 2005 where he currently served. Dick also had been a volunteer at the Gerber Memorial Health Services in the coffee shop, had served on the Fremont Area District Library Board; was a member and had served as treasurer of the Gerber Retirees Association; and had been a volunteer tax preparer at for AARP and Trunorth for 20 years. Dick was also a veteran of the United States Army where he served during the post Korean Era.
Dick is survived by his wife of 55 years, Maxine of Fremont; his children, Diane Conley Grand Rapids; David (Kristina) Conley of Norton Shores; Denise (Kurt) Burns of Rockford; his grandchildren, Emma, Eric and Phillip Conley; Kent, Jack, and Sophia Burns; his sister, Rosalind Desmet of Shelby Township; his sisters-in-laws, Maxine Conley of Saginaw; Betty Dean of Marysville, Michigan; many nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his brothers, James and Jack Conley and his sisters, Mary Lou Palm and Alice Nelson.
VISITATION : Friday, May 26, 2017 from 4-7pm at Crandell Funeral Home – Fremont Chapel 7193 W. 48th Street Fremont MI 49412 ROSARY SERVICES : Friday at 7pm at the Crandell Funeral Home – Fremont Chapel. MASS OF RESURRECTION : Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 11am at the All Saints Catholic Church 500, Iroquois Drive Fremont MI 49412. INTERMENT : Maple Grove Cemetery. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : Fremont Area Community Foundation Unrestricted Fund or the All Saints Catholic Church Building Fund
