Richard Ivan Chesley ("Dick"), age 77 of Croton/Hardy Dam, passed away unexpectedly (heart attack) on April 24, 2023. Dick was born on September 11, 1945 in Jackson, Michigan to George Ivan and Gualia Marietta (Horr) Chesley He graduated from Leslie High School and Ferris State College then worked for as a pharmacist for 22 years at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. Dick married the love of his life, Judy Ferm on March 25, 1967 in Big Rapids. They owned and operated Hilltop Shopping Center at Hardy Dam for 33 years until their son Alec purchased it from them. They then spent their retirement traveling the country in their motorhome. They spent many years "snowbirding" in Las Vegas and Biloxi, Mississippi where they walked the strip, rode bikes all over the place, and cruised along the ocean with the top down. Dick was many things including master of witty comebacks…collector of antique cars…fisher of salmon…watcher of birds…feeder of squirrels…heckler of his people…cruiser of the Great Lakes…maker of money…fan of youtube…driver of jeeps, rider of bikes…explorer of the country, researcher of genealogy…puller & receiver of pranks…viewer of home makeover shows…griller of filet mignon…lover of dogs…wearer of toupees…pusher of pills…but most of all a PROUD grandpa, dad, and husband….and a VERY devoted dog dad to his bestie Hooch (he fed him filet mignon)! Dick is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judy; his children, Alec (Penny) Chesley; Diana Zimmerman; his grandchildren, Katy (Bill) Huff; Cole (Alyssa) Chesley; Kylee (Makiah) McCracken; Zoe Zimmerman; Hailey Zimmerman; his great grandchildren, Weston and Evvie Huff and baby girl Chesley due in July; and his sister, Carol Hampton. Dick was preceded in death by his sister, Lois Ousley. Private Family Services held with interment in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Croton Township.
