Maurer, Richard D. Richard D. Maurer, age 69 of Croton, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2003 at the Gerber Memorial Health Services in Fremont . He was born on October 20, 1934 in Ensley Township to Norman Gene and Ruth Emily (Tawney) Maurer and has been a lifelong resident of the Croton area where he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and sports. He was retired from the State of Michigan Department of Transportation where he had been a construction technician and had been a generous supporter of youth activities in Newaygo and Fremont Schools . He is survived by his daughter, Helen (Anthony) Moss of Britton, Michigan; his grandchildren, Kyle, Jared, Grace, Lauren; his sisters, Marguerite (Merle) Holmes of Muskegon; his brother, Merrill (Connie) Maurer of Sand Lake; several nieces and nephews; his former wife, Janet Maurer of Sparta; special friend, Patricia Carpenter of Fremont and the many other special nurses and caregivers who have made an impact on Richards life over the past several years. He was preceded in death by his brother, Clare W. Maurer on October 1, 2003 . Funeral memorial services were held on Saturday, December 20, 2003 from the Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel with Funeral Celebrant Curt A. Crandell presiding with interment in the Croton Township Cemetery . Friends may consider the Fremont Area Community Foundation for the Richard D. Maurer Scholarship Fund for memorial contributions.
