Richard J. McCracken, age 86, of Brohman passed away on Friday, January 16, 2015, at his home. Richard was born on March 3, 1928, in Grand Rapids to John and Minetta Midge (Pratt) McCracken. Dick married Dolores Dorene Dake August 18, 1950 and shared 52 wonderful years together. During his life he owned Sparta Hob Nob, Sparta Lanes, Ken-Owa Body Shop, Rogue River Golf Course, was an independent insurance adjuster but his true passion, until age 83, was delivering meals to the elderly through Meals on Wheels and visiting friends in local nursing homes. He was an exceptional bowler and club champion at Silver Lake Country Club, Portland Country Club and Rogue River Golf Course. He was inducted into the Sparta Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996. Dick is survived by his children, David (Nancy) McCracken of Sparta, Paul McCracken of Brohman, and Roxanne (Tom) Rau of Cedar Springs; 8 granchildren; 16 great grandchildren; brothers and sister, Robert (Joyce) McCracken of Florida, James McCracken of Gowen, Jack McCracken of Sand Lake and Joan Abrahams of Greenville; sister-in-law, Joanne Dake of Sparta, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother Elgie Pratt and sister Wanda Wildfong. Family and friends are invited to share the celebration of Dicks life on Saturday, January 24, 2015 from 1:00 to 4:00 at Mamrelund Lutheran Church, Kent City, in the Fellowship Hall. There will be services announced in the spring with burial in Merrill Township Cemetery. Friends may share memories and condolences online at crandellfh.com.
