Richard Nyhof, age 95 of North Muskegon, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Harbor Hospice Poppen Residence in Muskegon. Richard was born on June 2, 1921 in Grand Rapids to John and Lula Bell (King) Nyhof and later married Evelyn Stell on December 11, 1945 in Brunswick. Evelyn preceded him in death on April 22, 2000. Richard joined the United States Navy at an early age where he served during World War II and the Korean War until his discharge after 20 years. Following his return to Muskegon, Richard worked as a Navy recruiter for 3 years and then began work for West Michigan Mart Dock as a supervisor where he worked until his retirement in 1983. Richard enjoyed playing poker, hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, refurbishing and refinishing furniture and was a member of the North Muskegon V.F.W.

Richard is survived by his children, John Nyhof of Muskegon and James Nyhof of Twin Lake; Cynthia Flores of Muskegon; 4 grandchildren, Linsey (Chris) Freet; Chandra Jawor; Kimberly Nyhof; Dustin Flores; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; very special friends, Judy and Dick Wilson of Montague; and special care givers, Niki and Amber. Richard was preceded in death by his significant other, Doris Rinard; his daughter-in-law, Darleen Nyhof.

VISITATION : Wednesday, October 19, 2016 from 12:30-2pm at Crandell Funeral Home – Fremont Chapel 7193 W 48th Street Fremont MI. FUNERAL SERVICES and MILITARY RITES: Wednesday at 2pm at the funeral home. INTERMENT : Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : Harbor Hospice for the Poppen Residence.
