Obituary

Richard W. Rich Witteveen, age 84 of Fremont, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont. Rich was born on March 1, 1929 in Sheridan Township to William and Josie (DeBoer) Witteveen and graduated from Fremont High School in 1947. Rich has been a longtime resident of the Fremont area where he had worked in the cold storage department at Gerber Products Company and had been a dairy farmer for many years until retirement. Rich married Annabelle Ann (Workman) Marvin on February 7, 1962 in DuPage, Illinois and she preceded him in death on May 2, 2007. Rich was an avid Detroit Tigers Fan and loved playing softball. He also had a fondness for the Detroit Lions and Michigan Wolverines. Rich enjoyed driving in the car around the Newaygo County countryside looking at different fields. Richs true passion though was farming. Rich is survived by his children, Kathy (Doug) Westbrook of Muskegon; Barb Nelson of Fremont; Jan (Gary) Kartes of Fremont; David (Debbie) Witteveen of Newaygo; Jayne (Randy) Elenbaas of Hesperia; Rick (Jenn) Witteveen of Shelby; his stepchildren, Paul Nick (Shirley) Marvin of Willow Springs, Missouri; Cookie (Ron) Evanauski of Holton; Patricia Pam (David) Farrington of Saukville, Wisconsin; Tom (Janice) Marvin of Whitehall; Brian (Carol) Marvin of Holland; 28 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 16 step grandchildren; 27 step great grandchildren; 3 step great great grandchildren; his sister, Lois Jordan of Fremont; his brother, Chuck (Carol) Witteveen of Grand Rapids; a special friend, June Bushen of Fremont; several nieces and nephews. Rich was preceded in death by his grandson, Pfc. Brett Witteveen, killed while serving in Iraq with the United States Marine Corps in 2007; grand daughter, Carol Elenbaas in 2012; sister, Marjorie L. Prince in 2013; his son-in-law, Jerry Kandler in 1998 and step great grandson, Garrett Marvin in 1985. VISITATION Saturday, May 4, 2013 from 11-1pm at the Second Christian Reformed Church in Fremont with FUNERAL SERVICES at 1pm at the Second Christian Reformed Church. INTERMENT : Maple Grove Cemetery.
