Richard F. "Rick" Werts, age 81 of Newaygo, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at his home following a short illness. Rick was born on February 5, 1933 in Frankfort, Indiana to Carlos L. and Martha C. (Forry) Werts. Rick later married Sandra Schuitema on April 18, 1964 in Grand Rapids. Rick and Sandra were the founders and original owners of Salmon Run Campground and later had rental properties. Rick enjoyed being in the Michigan outdoors – hunting, fishing, and mushroom hunting; living on the Pickeral Lake – boating, swimming, fishing and snorkeling. Rick was a veteran of the Korean War where he served in the United States Navy.

Rick is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sandra of Newaygo; his daughter Wendy (Chris) Hanna of White Cloud; his grandchildren, Tony (Alisha) Hanna of Grant; Jennifer Hanna of White Cloud; Matthew Hanna of White Cloud. He was preceded in death by his son, Richard C. "Ricky" Werts on June 11, 1986 and by his sisters, Mary Ellen Phillips and Jean Werts.
