Robert E. Billings, age 83 of Newaygo, passed away Monday, November 5, 2018 at the Transitional Health Services in Fremont. Robert was born on December 31, 1934 in Grand Rapids to Chester and Leone (Taber) Billings and later met and married Elaine Joyce Dunlap on November 23, 1957 in Newaygo. Robert has been a lifelong resident of the Newaygo area where he had been a carpenter in construction for many years until his retirement. Robert was a veteran of the United States Army where he served during the Korean War and had attended the White Cloud Church of God Ministry Center. Robert enjoyed the Michigan outdoors – fishing and hunting and enjoyed building. Robert is survived by his wife, Elaine of Newaygo; his children, Kelly (Hope) Billings of Amarillo, Texas; Stanley (Debbie) Billings of Tennessee; Anna (Keith) Brooks of Amarillo, Texas; Kenneth (Kristy) Billings of Alabama; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; his brother, Lloyd Billings of Lawrence, Michigan. Robert was preceded in death by his grandson, Sgt. Robert John Billings who died while serving in Afghanistan and his sister, Nancy Staffen.
