"If we could see beyond today" was his favorite song (author unknown). On July 22, 2023, the clouds rolled away and Robert "Bob" Dean Harlow, age 85, of Fremont, Michigan and Rio Verde, Arizona began to "see as God doth see," the many joys awaiting him with his precious Savior. Bob was born on February 23, 1938 to Gloyd and Ruth Harlow of Des Moines, Iowa. He lived life fully, generously, and faithfully.
Bob began his work career delivering newspapers at age 12, then had a lawn mowing business before attending Iowa State University, where he graduated with an electrical engineering degree. While working as an engineer, he completed an MBA at Western Michigan University. The bulk of his career was with Packaging Corporation of America. Bob was known for his dry sense of humor, hard work, love for tennis, water and snow sports, golf, and car shopping. He served on the boards of Athletes in Action and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and participated in Bible Study Fellowship as well as community bible studies. His greatest legacy is his love for Jesus, his commitment to God's word and his devotion to his family and friends.
He is joining his beloved wife of 47 years, Joyce Kay, in Jesus' presence. Together they often sang "We cannot see what lies before, And so we cling to Him the more, He leads us till this life is o'er, Trust and obey."
He is lovingly remembered by his second wife of 15 years, Gloria "Jean", and her family; his two sons, Jeffrey "Jeff" (Heidi) of Holland, MI and Robert "Rob" (Colette) of Rockford, MI; sister Beverly Nicolet of Des Moines, IA; brothers Phillip (Patsy) of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Charles (Bendy) of Prescott, AZ; nieces, nephews and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who affectionately called him "Boppa."
A simple and small burial service will be held in Bob's honor.
