Obituary

Robert Bob E. Rake, age 84 of Grant, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at his home. Bob was born on June 9, 1927 in Solon Township, Kent County to Edward and L. Helen (Hanna) Rake and graduated from Newaygo High School. Bob later married Hildur E. Carlson on January 30, 1954 at the Casnovia Reformed Church. Bob served during World War II and the Korean War in the United States Navy and was a Life Member of the Newaygo V.F.W. Sportsmans Post #4249. Bob had been a supervisor in the chemical industry for several years until his retirement and was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in White Cloud. Bob enjoyed golfing, hunting and some fishing, and enjoyed spending winters in Florida where he could attend the Detroit Tigers baseball games in Lakeland, Florida. Bob is survived by his wife of 58 years, Hildur of Grant; his son, Timothy Rake of Newaygo; Debra Patrick of Houston, Texas; his grandchildren, Heather Patrick and Derek (Shay) Patrick; his sister, Betty (Bud) Greiner; brother, Ronald (Vilma) Rake; his Florida family; many cousins, nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his grandson, Joseph E. Patrick. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 1pm at the Christ Lutheran Church in White Cloud with a time of visitation from 12 until the time of the services at the church and military rites under the auspices of the Newaygo V.F.W. Sportsmans Post #4249. Interment will take place in the Chubbuck Cemetery near Kent City. Friends may consider memorial contributions to the Christ Lutheran Church, Hospice of Michigan, or the Newaygo V.F.W. Sportsmans Post #4249 for memorial contributions in memory of Bob.
