Robert Jay Getz, age 78, of Newaygo passed away on Monday, October 14, 2019, at his home with his family by his side. Robert was born on May 11, 1941, in Parsons, Kansas, to Robert Jacob and Nellie (Luyk) Getz and later married Barbara Jean Jennings on June 12, 1974, in Danbury, Connecticut. Robert was a self-employed consultant, writer, and composer. He enjoyed hunting and being in the great outdoors. Robert was a soldier of the Salvation Army for many years and served as musical director and musician. Robert is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; children, Robert "Buck" Christian Jennings (fiancée Mariah) Getz and Jean Christiana Marion (Nicholas) Talsma; grandchildren, Willow and Felicity; brother and sisters, Jack (Barbara) Getz, Sharon Lundstrom, and Kathy (Norman) Bearcroft. He was preceded in death by his sister, Connie Sharon Getz. Graveside services were held at Rosedale Memorial Park Cemetery in Grandville.
