Robert D. Gill, age 100 of White Cloud, formerly of Long Beach, California, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at his home. Robert was born on March 11, 1922 in Perry, Missouri to Leighton and Rhue (Ruckle) Gill. Robert joined the United States Navy after graduation from High School where he served in the Pacific Theatre during the end of World War II. Robert met and later married Dorothy I. Marshall on July 8, 1949 in Long Beach, California. Dorothy preceded him in death on December 26, 2002. Robert had been a Motor Patrol Officer for the City of Long Beach from 1951 to 1979 for over 25 years until his retirement from the Long Beach Police Department and then began his second career with Platt Security from 1979 to 1999. Robert was a member of the 7th Day Baptist Church in White Cloud, had been a volunteer in the oncology department at the Gerber Hospital in Fremont for 15 years; enjoyed fishing, riding motorcycles, gardening and was a faithful Christian to his beliefs and his family. Robert was always a hard worker and operated a lawn care business while in Long Beach while being a police officer and a fitness enthusiast all his life.
Robert is survived by his children, Stephen (Darlene) Gill of Westchester, Ohio; Patti Wethington of Big Rapids; his grandchildren and great grandchildren, Sean (Amanda) Wethington and their children, Barrett and Berkeley; Leanna (Tomislav) Podhraski and their daughter, Sofija; Megan (Jerry) Williams; Jenna (Caleb) Killingbeck and their children, Avah, Boston, and Oliver; his companion of 17 years, Gladys Shepherd; nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; his son-in-law, Rev. Bernie Wethington on March 19, 2012 and his brother, Donald Gill.
MILITARY HONORS will be given on Friday, June 3, 2022 at 2pm outside the 7th Day Baptist Church with a CELEBRATION OF LIFE SERVICES following the military honors inside the 7th Day Baptist Church. Friends may consider memorial contributions to the 7th Day Baptist Church Deacons Fund in memory of Robert.
