Robert E. Hallmeyer, age 78 of Fremont, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont following a long illness. Bob was born on December 7, 1929 in Dayton, Kentucky and joined the United States Navy in 1948. After his discharge, Bob moved to White Cloud in 1952 and met and later married Betty Derks on May 26, 1956 in Fremont. Bob had worked at Gerber Products Company in Fremont for 38 years and retired as the Fremont Plant Purchasing Manager in 1992. Bob was elected to the Newaygo County Board of Commissioners in 1992 and served for 10 years until 2002. Bob was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Fremont. He enjoyed golfing, feeding the birds and his pride and joy were his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty; his daughter, Kim McDonald of Fremont; his sons, Steve Hallmeyer of Fennville; Mike Hallmeyer of Wyoming, Michigan; his grandchildren, Seaman 2nd Class, Christopher McDonald stationed in Mayport, Florida; Brandon McDonald; Matthew McDonald; Sarah McDonald; Ryan McDonald; Eric McDonald all of Fremont; 2 cousins, Dick (Kay) Schmalz of North Carolina; Virginia Halbauer of Bellevue, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Doering. VISITATION : Thursday from 5-8pm at Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel. FUNERAL SERVICES : Friday at 11am at the First Christian Reformed Church. INTERMENT : Reeman Cemetery. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTUIONS : Gift of Life.
