Robert Lewis Kemp, age 63, of Newaygo and formerly of Detroit passed away Saturday, August 19, 2000, at Spectrum Health Services Downtown Campus in Grand Rapids. Robert was born on April 29, 1937 in Mobile, Alabama to George and Carrie (Bell Tillmon) Kemp and married Dorothy Love on June 23, 1959, in Detroit. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a retired Foreman for the Department of Public Works-City of Detroit. He was a member of the Big Prairie Community Church and former Boy Scout troop leader. He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy of Newaygo; daughter, Sharon McPherson of Detroit and her children Felicia Nicole & Chanda Nicole McPherson; son, Lewis Ellis Kemp of Detroit; Jackie Wicker and her children Marquise and Katrice; a host of other foster children; brother Verbin (Will) Kemp of New York; Thomas E. (Denise) Kemp of Columbus, Ohio; sisters, Madeline Miller of Atlanta, Georgia, Gay Lee Cook of Pensacola, Florida, Anna Vera Grant of Detroit, Vergie Mae Blackmon of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Delores Durham of New York; a host of nieces and nephews; and several sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws. He was preceded in death by one brother, Orner Kemp. Funeral services were held on Thursday, August 24, 2000, at 12:30 p.m. from the Big Prairie Community Church in White Cloud with Rev.
