Obituary

Robert "Rob" W. Osborne, 71 of White Cloud, Michigan, passed unexpectedly on October 6, 2017. Rob was born on August 9, 1946 to Robert N. and Edith H. Osborne in Monroe, Michigan. Rob enlisted in the United States Marines and served two tours of duty during the Vietnam Conflict until his honorable discharge. Rob was very proud of his service to the country. After the military, he received his Associates degree in Metallurgy from Northern Michigan University. After retiring from Northwest Airlines, he returned to White Cloud where he joined his father in operating Osborne's Gunsmithing for over 30 years. He was a well-respected gunsmith not only in the local area, but had many customers across the United States as well. The gun shop was opened by his dad in 1947 and it recently closed when Rob retired on August 31, 2017.

For those who knew Rob, he had many diverse interests. Rob shot competitively; he had his private pilot's license and flew for many years; he was an avid photographer; talented wood-worker; he was a collector of various items (too numerous to mention), and he was an avid reader. He was very generous and kind-hearted.

He is survived by, and will be missed dearly by, his wife of 26 years, Cynthia (Willard) Osborne; daughter, Kati (Kevin) Dennis; daughter, Marianne Dennis; step-daughter, Melanie (Kurt) Vugteveen; step-daughter, Pam (Todd) Mulder; 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; his brother, Tom (Marge) Osborne; his sisters, Lucy (John) Schott; Suzin Osborne; and his canine pals. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Edith; his brother David; his son, Terry, step-son Michael and a grand daughter .

According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will not be any visitation or formal service. A private gathering of family to celebrate his life will take place at a later date. Friends may consider memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society in memory of Rob.
