Robert R. Peterlein, age 87 of Newaygo, passed away Monday, March 25, 2013 at the Transitional Health Services in Fremont. Robert was born on September 25, 1925 in Grand Rapids to Walter and Daisy (Walker) Peterlein and later married Wilma Berry on November 2, 1945 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Wilma preceded him in death on March 20, 2012. Robert had worked as a pattern maker in the manufacturing industry for many years until his retirement and had enjoyed woodworking, fishing and playing cards in his younger years. Robert had served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II and was a life member of the Croton American Legion, Post #381. Robert was a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints in Fremont. Robert is survived by his children, Robert M. Peterlein of Newaygo; Richard Peterlein of Newaygo; Chuck (Deb) Peterlein of Grand Rapids; his grandchildren; Robert K. (Vanessa) Peterlein of Newaygo; Nicole (William) Hall of Newaygo; Scott (Rachel) Peterlein of Newaygo; Cheryl (Orvelio) Velasquez of Grand Rapids; Jason (April) Peterlein of Sparta; Dawn Peterlein of Texas; 16 great grandchildren; his daughter-in-law, Theresa Peterlein of Grand Rapids; his sister, Sally Hambin of Utah. Robert was preceded in death by his grandson, Chuck Peterlein; his sister, Arliss Kiper; his brothers, Charles and Walter Peterlein. Private memorial services will be held following cremation. Friends may consider memorial contributions to the Robert Peterlein family, c/o Crandell Funeral Home for memorial contributions in memory of Robert.
