Robert Kenneth Slate, 39, of Denver Colorado and formerly of Fremont, passed away unexpectedly October 20, 2020. Robert was born on September 11, 1981, to Dan and Lori (Dean) Slate in Ludington, Michigan. Robert graduated from Fremont High School and attended Western Michigan University where he received his Bachelor's degree. After working as the manager of an audio-visual company in Arizona, he settled into life in Colorado, where he co-founded and co-owned Anseris Heating Apparel. Rob was an avid sports enthusiast and loved tennis, soccer, mountain biking and snowboarding. He was a lifelong fan of the Detroit Lions, the Tigers, Western Michigan University and Michigan State University sports. Robert was instrumental in designing, building and remodeling projects, including the H&S Companies office building in Muskegon, MI and many infrastructure improvements at RMOC in Colorado. He was also an accomplished self-taught cook who enjoyed hosting his family and friends. Robert affected many people in his lifetime and will be sadly missed for his selfless and gracious spirit, loving with kindness and empathy and his devotion to his many family members and friends.
Besides his parents, Dan and Lori Slate, Robert is survived by his brother, Brandon (Teresa) Slate and their children Ellison and Samara of Colorado; sister, Christine (Brian) Schiller and son Ben of St. Joseph; paternal grandmother, Elaine Slate of Grand Rapids, maternal grandfather, Kenneth Dean of Kingsley and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Robert was preceded in death by his grandfather, Robert Slate; his grandmother, Bonnie Martin and his uncle, Harry Gilbert.
A Time of VISITATION will be held on Saturday, July 17 from 2 - 4 p.m. at the Crandell Funeral Home 7193 W 48th Street Fremont, Michigan 49412. A Dedication Ceremony is also planned that day (July 17, 2021) at 9 a.m. at the Dragon Trail, (with parking at Sandy Beach County Park, 6926 E. 30 St. in White Cloud) to dedicate a bridge in Rob's honor with a memorial bike ride on the trail following the dedication ceremony. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Fremont Area Community Foundation to complete funding for the bridge on the Dragon Trail.
