Robert J. "Bob" Smalley, age 78 of Brohman, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Feb 2, 2022 at his home. Bob was born on August 30, 1943 in Georgetown Township, Ottawa County, Michigan to William C. and Margaret (Zandbergen) Smalley and graduated from Forest Hills High School. Bob joined the United States Navy where he was a mechanic during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge and returned to the Grand Rapids area. Bob took over ownership of Kent Polishing and Buffing in Grand Rapids from his father and owned and operated the company until its closing and then Bob began work at Hayworth Inc. until his retirement. Bob moved the White Cloud area and then moved permanently to Brohman in 2006. Bob had enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and being in the Michigan outdoors and enjoyed walking wherever he needed to go. Bob is survived by his children, Jody (Mike) Schutte of Trufant, Michigan; William D. (Christine) Smalley of Tennessee; Bobbie Jo Estrada of Corning, Arkansas; his grandchildren, Christopher (Stephanie) Heiss. Jeffrey Heiss, Sarah Heiss, Abigail Lebaron, Ambur Hunt, Arlen Maynard, Aiden Maynard, Cathleen Smalley, Merissa Smalley, William C. Smalley II; 3 great grandchildren; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, William and Margaret Smalley and by his sister, Billie Smalley. CELEBRATION OF LIFE SERVICES : A Celebration of Life for Bob will be held starting at 2 PM on Saturday May 14, 2022, at 555 Northern Ave. in Brohman 49312. Interment will be at Grandville Cemetery.
