Robert H. Steele, age 84, of White Cloud passed away Friday, January 26, 2001, at his home following a short battle with cancer. He was born on March 3, 1916, in Detroit to Carl John and Lelah (VanPatten) Steele and attended the University of Michigan. He married Ruth Meggitt and had two sons Jeffery E. and Gregory L. Steele before volunteering for the U.S. Army at the outbreak of WWII. He served in the South Pacific where he advanced through the ranks to be commissioned as Captain and was seriously wounded. He was medically discharged returning to the Fremont Area. Bob worked at various jobs in Fremont including Seymours Radio and the Hi-Lites. In his retirement Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing and producing museum-quality replicas of Great Lakes Steamships which are currently on display in museums in Michigan and Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Virginia on July 24, 1996; brother John Steele of Fremont; sister, Betsy of Muskegon; and step-son Bob Grant of Fremont. He is survived by his first wife Ruth; 2 sons, Jeffery (Doris) Steele of Reed City and Gregory (Donna) Steele of Marquette; sister, Ruth Pekel of White Cloud; step-daughter Doris (Warren) Rake of Twin Lake; step-daughter-in-law Ginger (Bill) Bowen of White Cloud; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and dozens of nieces and nephews.
