Wood, Robert "Woody" W. Robert Woody W. Wood, age 74 of Newaygo, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2006 at his home following a long illness. Woody was born on May 9, 1932 in Atlantic, Michigan to Walter and Amanda Fredrica (Juntunen) Wood and later married Edna May Westgate on December 22, 1956 in Mecosta County. Woody has been a longtime resident of the Newaygo area where he enjoyed playing cards, traveling, gaming and spending time with his family. He had been a production worker at the Bendix Company Filter Division in Detroit and later retired from MichCraft in Big Rapids. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Edna of Newaygo; his children, Edna Marie (Pete) Perez of Newaygo; Carol Ann (Jay) DeWispelaere of Newaygo; Mary Elizabeth (Craig) Gietzen of Grand Rapids; Robert Edgar (Michelle) Wood of Newaygo; 15 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; his sisters, Marie Portz of Newaygo; Ruth Peters of Idaho; his brother, Theron (Judy) Edwards of Forks, Washington; his mother-in-law, Sadie Westgate of Newaygo; several brothers and sisters-in-laws. Funeral services were held on Wednesday from the Crandell Funeral Home White Cloud Chapel with Pastor Arnold Guikema of the Big Prairie Community Church presiding with interment in the Big Prairie Everett Township Cemetery.
