Obituary

The world lost Robert C. Ward Sr. on Thursday, August 19, 2021. Bob recognized Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and loved Jesus and tried to do his work on Earth. Bob was born on September 7, 1936 in Dubuque, Iowa to Clement and Catherine (Bever) Ward. Bob achieved a Bachelor of Science Degree from Western Michigan University where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi, Honor Society and earned his Associates Degree from Rockford College. He also studied business at the University of Michigan. Bob was employed in many professional positions in sales and marketing with Gerber Products Company for almost 35 years, a career that he thoroughly enjoyed. His major gains were in making the initial sales of Gerber Baby Foods to Toys "R" Us, Kmart, Target, BJ's Wholesale Club and other non grocery companies. These major sales gains were made possible by the development by Bob of multipacks of 4 or more of Gerber Baby Food items into one retail selling unit. Bob and his Special Markets Sales Team also made major gains in the WIC and Military sales markets. Bob was also an account manager in Chicago for 15 years selling to the major Chicago retailers where Gerber brand shares rose from 45% to 80% during this period he was manager. Bob was also a member of the Gerber Retirees Board. After retirement from Gerber Products in1996, Bob joined the United States Department of Labor developing the Consumer Price Index in the Denver area for another 6 years until his final retirement and then pursued many volunteer opportunities. Bob had volunteered as a Union Shop Steward, President of the All Saints Catholic Church Parish Council, served as a Lector, Usher and Eucharistic Minister as well as was a 3rd Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus. Bob was a leader and worker at many charitable events and was a member of the St. Michael's School Board and had called Bingo games for fundraising for the school. He had served as President of his Florida Timber Creek Community, and President of Garten Haus Condominiums in Fremont. He had worked as a valet for no compensation at Spectrum Health Gerber Memorial Hospital in Fremont. He also donated 50 pints of blood to the American Red Cross and volunteered for the American Red Cross in Denver, Colorado until he was no longer medically able to donate blood. Bob served in the United States Army Reserve for 6 years rising from rank of Private to Sergeant First Class. Bob married Mary Catherine Corbett on August 6, 1966 in Iowa and Mary Kay preceded him in death on June 27, 2015. He and Mary Kay enjoyed traveling and took many trips to various European countries, Israel, the Holy Land, Egypt, Jordan and other countries. A major highlight of their travels was crossing the Atlantic Ocean by ship in 2007. Bob is survived by his children and grandchildren, Robert Ward Jr., Catherine "Katie" (Keith) Vogel, Stephen (Laura) Ward; his grandchildren - Quinn, Corbin, Ivan, Maxim, and twins – Katiya and Mila. Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 49 wonderful years, Mary Kay Ward on June 27, 2015; and his daughter-in-law, Angela Ward on January 9, 2020. VISITATION : Friday, August 27, 2021 from 12-1pm at the All Saints Catholic Church 500 Iroquois Fremont MI 49412 with MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL at 1pm at the All Saints Catholic Church.
