Obituary

Roberta Rae Tuffelmire, a cherished resident of Fremont, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at the age of 83. Born in Muskegon, Michigan on April 16, 1943 to Robert and Rachel Smith, Roberta lived a vibrant life filled with love, joy, and an unwavering spirit that deeply touched everyone she encountered.

During her career, Roberta served as a compassionate bus driver for Fremont Public Schools and later worked as a dedicated production worker at Gerber Products. Her enthusiasm extended beyond her professional life. She loved fishing, playing softball, bowling, and was fondly remembered as the homecoming queen at Reeths-Puffer High School. Roberta's love for art, dancing, and her vibrant personality lit up every room she entered. Her caring nature and loving heart brought joy to all who knew her. Roberta Rae Tuffelmire's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Her love, laughter, and indomitable spirit will be profoundly missed but remembered with warmth and gratitude.

A devoted mother, Roberta is survived by her loving children: Stephanie Black, Steven Britton, Stacey Heckman, and Scott Britton. Her legacy continues through her beloved grandchildren: Sophie VanSickle, Madeline Britton, Kohen Heckman, Alex Britton, and Darren Britton. Roberta is also survived by her sisters, Janet Sutherland and Irene Chilcote, along with many nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart. Preceding Roberta in death were her parents, Robert Smith and Rachel Florence Smith, and her sisters, Barbara White and Rochelle Smith.

A visitation will be held at Dayton Center Wesleyan Church, 2192 S Comstock Ave, Fremont, MI, on Monday, July 6, 2026, at 10:00 am, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 am. A luncheon will immediately follow at noon. Later that afternoon, at 2:30 pm, she will be laid to rest during a Graveside Service at Custer Cemetery, Custer, MI. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Roberta's church, Dayton Center Wesleyan Church. Roberta's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers at Regency for the incredible kindness and love they showed her. Arrangements have been entrusted to Crandell Funeral Home - Fremont.
