Tanis, Robert C. Robert C. Tanis, age 70 of Fremont , passed away Wednesday, November 26, 2003 at the Gerber Memorial Health Services in Fremont . Robert was born on August 2, 1933 in Reeman , Michigan to Bert and Clara (Rynberg) Tanis and married Lorayne Stratton on June 28, 1957 in Fremont . He has been a lifelong resident of the Fremont area where he was a self employed carpenter and owned and operated Deuling & Tanis Carpentry for over 40 years. He was a life member of the Newaygo Veterans of Foreign Wars Sportsmans Post #4249; enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and camping; member of the Croton American Legion Walter Howarth Post #381; member of AMVETS; and enjoyed strongly expressing his opinion on various issues. He is survived by his wife, of 46 years, Lorayne of Fremont; his children, Dale (Nancy) Tanis of Holton; Denny (Melinda) Tanis of Grant; Penny (Jeff) Cook of White Cloud; 14 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; his sisters, Luella Tanis of Reeman; Phyllis Bushaw of Reeman. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cindy Tanis in 1969 and a sister, Geraldine Jackowski. Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 29, 2003 from the Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel with military rites given under the auspices of the Newaygo Veterans of Foreign Wars Sportsmans Post #4249 at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont .
