Rodney VanderSys, age 74 of Spring Lake, passed away Monday, October 15, 2018 at the Mercy Health Partners – Sherman Campus in Muskegon. Rodney was born on April 16, 1944 in Grand Haven to Art and Hannah (Veltman) VanderSys and attended Spring Lake Schools. Rodney joined the United States Navy where he served as a radio operator during the Vietnam War. After his discharge, Rodney returned to the Spring Lake area where he has been a lifelong resident and had been a school bus driver for the area schools and had enjoyed fishing in his younger years. Rodney is survived by his brother, Dennis (Janet) VanderSys of Hesperia; several nieces and nephews, his dog Patch and his caregiver, Quinn Snedekker of Spring Lake. Military Honors with a memorial luncheon will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the Hesperia American Legion Post 4075 S 198th Ave. Hesperia MI 49421. Interment will take place in the West Hesperia Cemetery. Friends may consider memorial contributions to the Hesperia American Legion in memory of Rodney.
