Rodny Wayne Penland, Sr., of White Cloud, MI age 78 passed away on April 24, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Muskegon on July 27, 1946 to Carroll and Vola (Collins) Penland. He graduated from Ravenna High Scholl in 1964. On August 12, 1966 Rod married Connie (Kirkwood), his high school sweetheart in the St. Jeans Catholic Church in Muskegon.
Rod was a man of many talents. He was best known for his farrier work and breaking out young colts and problem horses. While going to school and on college breaks he worked at Lakey Foundry. Later Misco, Burger King as manager, Muskegon Correctional Facility as a food supervisor and later as a teacher. He got a chance in 1985 to return to Howmet as a FPI supervisor. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. The pack trips into the mountains of Montana, Wyoming and Colorado were wonderful vacations with horses and friends. Some of his favorite places were the family hunting cabin in Brohman, the pond on the family farm and The River.
After retirement, Rod and Connie wintered in Florida at the McCulleys Farm with their horses.
Rod cherished his loving family. He is survived by his wife, Connie of 58 years. 2 sons- Rodny, Jr. (Nanci) and Brad (partner, Amy). 3 grandson which he was so proud of and let everyone know they were the "Pride of his Life"- Michael, Adam, and Kyle. 1 sister, Sheryl Braeckeveldt (Jim).
