Ronald F. Cook, age 79 of Newaygo and formerly of Howard City, passed away Monday, April 3, 2023 at the Regency at Fremont following a decline in health due to dementia. Ron was born on June 18, 1943 in Howard City to Russell and Darlene (Hamel) Cook and graduated from Howard City High School. Ron soon joined the United States Navy and served during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge. Ron was a Life Member of the Newaygo VFW Sportsman's Post #4249 and member of the Croton American Legion Post #381. Ron held various titles throughout his working years including, sheet metal worker, welder, HVAC work, insurance agent, real estate sales agent, crop duster pilot, corporate pilot and truck driver. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, was an amateur radio operator "KB8ZDD". Ron was an airplane enthusiast his entire life and did his first solo flight while in high school in Howard City and flew airplanes out of White Cloud airport and also was active in the Tail Twisters Model Airplane Group. Ron is survived by his daughter, Monica (Bob) Welch of Bradenton, Florida; his son, Ron (Irene) Cook of Howard City; his grandchildren, Paul (Jessica) Schroeder II; Allie (Raymond) Bush; Willie (Becky) Cook; 5 great grandchildren; his uncle, Bob (Clara) Cook; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pattie; his parents, Russell and Darlene Cook and his brother, James Russell Cook.
