Obituary

Ross W. Shoecraft, age 85 of Fremont, passed away Saturday, May 19, 2001 in Fremont. He was born on August 2, 1915 in Charleston, Illinois to Ross N. and Hetty (Kimbell) Shoecraft and later married Virginia Pietsch. He served his country and community and loved and appreciated his family and friends. He was a lifelong resident of Fremont and was a member of the Fremont Congregational United Church of Christ. He was a 1st Lt. in the US Army during World War II and was a graduate of Michigan State University. He was active in Boy Scouts of America, having received the Silver Beaver and the Order of the Arrow, the American Red Cross and the 4-H Riding Program. Member of the Fremont City Commission, past president of Ramshorn Country Club and Fremont Lions Club, officer of the Michigan Retailers Association, co-owner of Shoecrafts Clothing Stores and was retired from Gerber Products Company. He is survived by his wife, Virginia of Fremont; daughters, Marilyn (David) McKune of Battle Creek; Paula Shoecraft of Washington, DC; son, Tom Shoecraft of Fremont; grand daughter, Kellie (Steve) Pijaszek; great granddaughter, Rachel Pijaszek; nephews, Bart (Linda) Waldo; Tim (Shelli) Waldo; Kip Waldo. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorcas Mortland and Mary Waldo. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 22, 2001 from the Fremont Congregational Church United Church of Christ in Fremont with Rev. Frank Vietze and Rev. John Whitlock presiding with interment in the Maple Grove Cemetery. Friends may consider the Fremont Area Community Foundation for either Newaygo County Chaplaincy Service or Fremont District Library for memorial contributions.
