Rudolf "Rudy" Gross, age 83 of Holton and Hesperia, passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at his home. Rudy was born on August 2, 1936 in Poland to Edward and Alwine (Reimer) Gross and emigrated from Germany through Ellis Island in 1952 and then moved to Grand Haven in 1953. Rudy met VernaMae Marie Hillstead at a local dance and they were married on October 12, 1957 in Muskegon Heights. Rudy had been a boilermaker with Boilermakers Local #169 until his retirement in 1995. In 1959, Rudy and VernaMae bought a dairy farm where they farmed for the next 30 years until 1989. Rudy had enjoyed soccer, dancing, horses, was always willing to help friends and family with a welding project at the farm and was a great husband and father.
Rudy is survived by his wife of 62 years, VernaMae of Hesperia; his daughters, Renae White (partner-David Tibbits) of Hesperia; Aimee (Don) Fahrer of Grand Rapids; his granddaughter, Jessie (Jack) Samples; his grandson, Aaron White (partner-Jaici Bancroft); his 2 great grandsons, Mason and Owen; his sister, Lina Grelewicz of Hesperia; his nephew Harry Meins of Germany. He was preceded in death by his sister, Olga Meins.
Private family services will be held at a later date following Rudy's wishes for cremation. Friends may consider memorial contributions to Spectrum Health Foundation for Spectrum Health Hospice.
