Rufus Monroe Spillman, age 75 of White Cloud, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 15,2008, at Gerber Memorial Health Services. Rufus was born on June 30, 1933, in Cape Girardeau, MO., to Rufus Marcus (Daisy) Spillman and married Ruth Johnson on April 1, 1960. Rufus worked as a mechanic for Michigan Bell Phone Company for 30 years until his retirement. He had also worked for Kelley Harley Davidson and was an avid bike rider. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served in the Korean Conflict. Rufus is survived by his loving wife, Ruth; children, Barbara (Jim) Carnes of White Cloud, Robert Dale Ashley of Comstock Park, Mark Spillman of Newaygo, and Jo Ann Spillman of Grand Rapids; brother-in-laws, Leon Johnson and Donald (Mary) Johnson; sister-in-laws Doris Johnson and Carol Johnson; 6 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friend Nelda Dean Johnson. He was preceded in death by his brother Tommy Spillman. A celebration of Rufuss life will take place at a later time.
