Obituary

Russell J. Menold, 91, of Hesperia passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on April 5, 1922, to Sumner and Geneva Menold in Thompsonville, Michigan. He graduated high school in Fennville in 1940 where he pitched a perfect game and was known as the Fennville Flash. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in Italy, North Africa, and Algers. He worked 39 years for General Telephone Co. and was known in the area as "The Telephone Man." He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. He married Frances Bielinski Lockage on June 12, 1948 and she passed away in 1999. He then married Mary Britton in 2000, she passed away in 2005. He was a life member of the Hesperia Masonic Lodge #346 and Order of the Eastern Star. He was a member of the Hesperia Presbyterian Church and a charter member of the Hesperia Lions Club. He is survived by his daughters, Linda (Jim) Reynolds of North Muskegon, Marcia (Gary) Woods of Hesperia, and Judy (Roger) Herin of Hart; 6 grandchildren, Julie (Lee) Lupo, Mike (Karen) Reynolds, Melissa (Dwight) Fuehring, Lisa Andritsis, Sara (Scott) Sherman, and Brian Woods; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; sister, Verda Hews of White Cloud; sister-in-law, Phyllis Menold of Portland; and special friend Barb Pettit. He was preceded in death by Frances, the mother of his children; Mary Menold; brother, Howard; brother-in-law Sam Hews; and son-in-law, Joe Kennedy. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 1, 2013 from 5 - 7 PM at the Crandell Funeral Home in Fremont. There will be a Memorial Masonic Service on Monday evening at 7 PM. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 AM at the Hesperia Presbyterian Church. For a more lasting memorial, friends are asked to consider the Hesperia Presbyterian Church or Harbor Hospice.
