Ruth W. Hawkey, 80, of Fremont passed away Wednesday morning at Gerber Memorial Health Services in Fremont. She was born on May 16, 1920, in Ludington to Alf Julius and Margaret Olivia (Petersen) Walle and married Charles William Hawkey on October 24, 1942, in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. She was formerly employed at Gerber Products Company and was a Gray Lady at Gerber Memorial Health Services. Ruth was a member of the First Congregational Church United Church of Christ. She is survived by loving daughter Karen Gilbert of Marshall; grandchildren Amy Jane (Michael) Mulkey and Christian Charles Gilbert; loving son Fred Hawkey (Denise MacDonald and children Demetry and Demont MacDonald) of Newaygo; and sister Doris (Wallie) Arnold of Ann Arbor. She was preceded in death by 4 brothers, 2 sisters and her husband Charles William Hawkey on July 17, 2000. Services were held on Tuesday Jan. 2, 2001 Tuesday, at the First Congregational Church United Church of Christ with interment in Maple Grove Cemetery.
