Samuel Edward Hews, age 77 of White Cloud, passed away Friday, April 13, 2001 at this winter home in Florida. He was born on June 29, 1923 in Little Lake, Michigan to Wade and Rae (Walkup) Hews and married Verda Menold on December 7, 1957 in Hesperia. He has been a resident of Diamond Lake and White Cloud Area since 1983 when he retired from Blackmer Pump Company in Grand Rapids where he was a machinist. Sam was a member of the White Cloud United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Verda Hews; his daughter, Judith (Orland) Dame of Comstock Park; his son, Steven (Cheryl) Hews of Walker; 8 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; his sisters, Greta Hews of Kingman, Arizona; Ione "Billie" Columb of Rapid River Michigan; Darrell Oberg of Rapid River, Michigan; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Russell Hews on March 26, 1992 and a sister, Clara Harmon. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 18, 2001 from the White Cloud United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Jacquish presiding with interment in the Lincoln Township Cemetery.
