Obituary

Sandra "Sandy" Haggerty, age 76 of Brohman and formerly of Detroit, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at the Angela Hospice in Livonia following a long battle, but one she never quit fighting, with cancer. Sandy was born on July 20, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan to Samuel and Ruby (Feeley) Owens and graduated from North Western High School in Detroit. Shortly after Sandy was born, her father, Samuel passed away in a fire. Ruby remarried Albin Alfvegren and he became her stepfather and protector in her younger years and eventually moved to the Brohman area with Sandy and her husband, Patrick, until Albin passed away. Sandy met and married Patrick Haggerty in Detroit. Patrick preceded her in death on August 7, 1997. Sandy and Patrick owned and operated12 rental properties in the Detroit area and in 1990, they built their home in Brohman and moved to Brohman on a permanent basis at that time. Following a continued decline in Patrick's health, Sandy took over the job of maintaining their property in Brohman and it was not unusual to find her outside cutting the grass or raking leaves and maintaining the property. Sandra enjoyed sitting on her deck and looking at their beautiful yard, watching the birds, squirrels and anything else that would pass by. She would glow when speaking of the trees that the family planted on the property that she knew would remain long after they were gone for her children and grandchildren to remember her and her husband. She was fondly known to her grandchildren as "little grandma" due to her small stature. However, her small stature did not reduce her ferocity in life. She was able to overcome stage 4 lung cancer and a great array of health issues after that. She never gave up the fight for her family and knew that her children by her side and the Lord in the sky, she could overcome all obstacles in her way. Sandy is survived by her children, Bonnie (Kenneth) Remenapp; Rebecca Haggerty; Daniel (Becky McCallum) Haggerty; her grandchildren, Ashley, Aiyana, Nadia, Christian, and Chase; her extended family, Lindsey, Ashley and baby Hope; her brother, Samuel Owens; dear sister-in-law, Patricia Russell, nieces and nephews, and additional brothers and sisters that are unknown due to the fact the family was separated after their birth. Sandy was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick K. Haggerty and her sister, Patricia Owens.
