Wagner
October 6, 1955 – July 16, 2001
Sensei Mark Wagner, age 45 of White Cloud, passed away unexpectedly Monday July 16, while at work at his studio. Mark was the owner of the Imperial Karate Studio in Fremont and was born on October 6, 1955 in Rochester, New York to Robert and Barbara (Turpyn) Wagner. He started training on July 9, 1973 in Brockport, New York and on Octobert 22, 1975 he received his First Degree (Shodan) Black Belt. He became Sensei Wagner, as we all knew him, when he started teaching at his own school, Imperial Karate in Rochester, N. Y. in 1976. On July 9, 1998, Sensei Wagner fulfilled the years of training and age requirement to succeed to Seventh Degree Black Belt. As his years of teaching progressed he developed his own style of Karate which is a combination of several Martial Arts forms. This style we all know as Yama Umi Do., interpreted as "Where the mountain meets the sea". In the fall of 2000 Sensei Wagner moved to Fremont after reuniting with his high school sweetheart, Sheree Hanson and opened the Imperial Karate Studio in Fremont. He is survived by his fiance, Sheree Hanson of White Cloud, 2 daughters, Nicole and Melanie Wagner of Rochester, New York; one sister Debbie Phillips; 2 brothers, John Gibardone and Mike Hill. Memorial services were held on Sunday, July 22, 2001 at the Imperial Karate Studio. Interment was in Lincoln Cemetery. Memorial envelopes are available at the Crandell Funeral Home Chapel in Fremont.
