Shirley R. Barends, age 88 of Fremont, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2019 at the Fountain View Retirement Home in Coopersville. Shirley was born on October 20, 1930 in Pennsylvania to David and Rosella Olive (Hite) Fritz and later moved to the Fremont area. Shirley had been a homemaker and worked as an accountant at Longstreet Plumbing and Pyles Floorcovering, was an excellent baker and had worked in the bakery at Bill's Shop and Save and had also worked a summer in Alaska. Shirley also enjoyed being a member of the Newaygo Congregational United Church of Christ. Shirley married William "Bill" Barends on June 17, 1997 in Newaygo and was fondly known to Bill as "Honey Bee". Shirley is survived by her husband, William "Bill" Barends of Fremont; her children, Son - Rick (Deborah) Moore and their children and grandchildren, Kadie (Tony) Hoffman – Hailey, Kelsey, Ryley, Tobey, Bradey; Jeff (Julie) Moore – Asher and Emily; Tyler Moore. Son - Scott (Luci) Moore and their children and grandchildren, Jenna (John) Adams – Owen and Gwen; Max Moore. Daughter - Lisa (Kyle) Clark and their children – Zane, Merik and Kendall. Son – Tom Barends and his children, Mercedes and Isiah. Her sisters, Lois Celkis and Judy Kochans and brothers, Jim (Carol) Fritz; David (Kathy) Fritz. She was preceded in death by her first husband, AJ Moore; her sister, Joretta and brothers, Tom, Russell, and Bill.
