Obituary

Shirley Mae Blamer, age 90 of Fremont, passed away peacefully at her home following a decline in her health on Monday, October 30, 2023. Shirley was born on March 11, 1933 in Wooster to Paul and Dorothy (Bunker) Gates and graduated from Fremont High School in 1951. Shirley met and later married Vernon L. Blamer on August 8, 1952 in Fremont and Vern preceded her in death on March 26, 2020. Shirley had worked at Gerber Products Company in the survey operations department and later in the corporate research library until her retirement in 1992. Shirley was a longtime attendee of the Fremont United Methodist Church where she had been a Sunday school teacher and enjoyed reading, gardening, traveling. Shirley had been a volunteer with the American Cancer Society, March of Dimes and Friends of the Fremont Area District Library. She had been a Girl Scout Leader and enjoyed playing cards in the Pedro Club with her friends. Shirley especially enjoyed being a "grandma Shirley" and treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren. Shirley is survived by her children, Rhona (Mike) Colbert of North Muskegon; Lynn (Bob) Hurley of Tampa, Florida; Joni (Brad) Blamer-West of Fremont; Christy (Dave) Norman of Fremont; Dan (Barbie Jenkins) Blamer of Mt. Rainier, Maryland; 15 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; special friends, Jack Gillette and Ardyce VanArman. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Vern; her son, Bradley P. Blamer; her grandson, Brandon Blamer; her great granddaughter, Camille Colbert-Knox; and her brother, Gary Gates. A joint Celebration of Life Memorial Service with Fellowship for both Shirley and Vernon will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at the Stone Lodge 4465 W. 48th Street Fremont MI  49412,  A time of visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the Stone Lodge.     Friends may consider memorial contributions to the Fremont Area District Library or Promedica Hospice in memory of Shirley.
