Obituary

Shirley (DeKuiper) Wilson, age 83 of Fremont, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at the Fountain View Retirement Village in Fremont. Shirley was born on September 6, 1925 in Fremont to Glenn and Phyllis (Dickerson) Shaw and has been a lifelong resident of the Fremont area. Shirley graduated from Hackley School of Nursing in 1946 and was a Registered Nurse. She started her nursing career at the Gerber Products Company as plant nurse and later moved to Gerber Memorial Hospital, Newaygo Medical Care Facility and retired from the Meadows Nursing Center in Fremont in 1987. Shirley married George DeKuiper on June 11, 1954 in Fremont and he preceded her in death on December 22, 1984. She later married Forest Wilson Sr. in 1993 and he preceded her in death on August 4, 2000. Shirley was a co-founder of the Newaygo County Sheriffs Posse and had been active in Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts and the A-Sha-La-Ho Indian Dancers for several years. Shirley enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Canada. She enjoyed working on her farm for many years and was also enjoyed knitting, making blankets and hats for her family and also hundreds of hats for NCCS. She was also a member of the Aetna Calvary Church. She is survived by her children, Randy (Cris) DeKuiper of Hesperia; Marlene Pavlin of Rothbury; Dan (Betty) DeKuiper of Coopersville; Lon (Jodi) DeKuiper of White Cloud; 5 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; her sisters, Virginia Peets of Fremont; Jean Geeting of Fremont; Geraldine Shanahan of Newaygo; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Leora Tanis on November 22, 1995 and her sister, Elaine Smith. VISITATION : Friday, 5-8pm at Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel. FUNERAL SERVICES : Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 11am at the Crandell Funeral Home Fremont Chapel with Pastor Phil Jones of the Aetna Calvary Church presiding with interment in the Sherman Township Cemetery. Friends may consider Heartland Hospice or the Newaygo County Sheriff's Posse for memorial contributions in memory of Shirley.
