Obituary

Stanley, Stanley P. "Stan" Stanley P. Stan Stanley, age 78 of White Cloud, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2007 at the Gerber Memorial Health Services in Fremont. Stan was born on July 29, 1928 in White Cloud to Joseph and Ann (Derela) Stanley and graduated from White Cloud High School and later attended and graduated from Ferris State College with his Masters Degree in Business Education. He met and later married Frances Jones Fox on May 30, 1956 in Big Rapids and Frances preceded him in death on September 20, 1998. Stan had been a teacher and later became the Superintendent at the Walkerville Public Schools where he served for 31 years until his retirement in 1983. Stan joined the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He was also a member of the Newaygo V.F.W., Sportsmans Post #4249 and a member of the Military Order of Cootie in Newaygo. Stan volunteered his time at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans and spent many hours transporting Newaygo County Veterans to Grand Rapids and Ann Arbor to the veterans hospital and assisting veterans in Newaygo County. Stan also served on the Newaygo County Veterans Soldiers and Sailors Relief Board for many years. Stan was an avid golfer and often times played in 3 leagues every week. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his children, Terry Wood of Rockford; Patricia (Bob) Probst of Bronson, Kansas; Jo Ellen (Rick) Rodiquez of Berrien Springs, Michigan; Cheryl Scannell of White Cloud; Michael (Ruth) Fox of Pentwater; 17 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; his sisters, Rose Alger of White Cloud; Juanita (Royce) Carlson of Flagstaff, Arizona; brother, Randy (Kathy) Hull of White Cloud; stepfather, Harry Hull of Fremont. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances, a grandson, Mike and by his brother, Joseph Stanley. Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 31, 2007 at the Crandell Funeral Home White Cloud Chapel with Chaplain Leo Rathbun of the Newaygo V.F.W. Sportsmans Post presiding with interment in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery and military rites given by the Newaygo V.F.W. Sportsmans Post #4249. Through out the years, I considered him a close friend and fellow cootie. I have missed him greatly since his illness and I know he will be watching from above this coming weekend at the convention in Newaygo, I will become the Grand Commander for the MOC Grand of MI. My wife, Kristine and I send our condolences to his family, I dont know if we will be able to make the visitation or the funeral, but I am trying to work that out now.
