Stanley A. Thurston, age 81 of Grass Valley, California, formerly of Ravenna, passed away Friday, April 1, 2022 at his sisters home in Grant. Stanley was born on June 7, 1940 in Montcalm County to Melvin and Lillian (Boerma) Thurston and graduated from Ravenna High School and soon moved to California where he began his life as a cowboy. Stanley had been the ranch foreman in Grass Valley, California for many years where he raised cattle and buffalo until his retirement and then moved back to the area to be with his family. Stanley had enjoyed the cowboy life and attended many rodeos, hunting and fishing. Stanley is survived by his sisters and brothers, Robert (Pat) Thurston of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; Lee (Shirley) Thurston of Muskegon; Betty (Terry) Ingersoll of Muskegon; Kay (Lee) Newell of Grant; James Thurston of Post Falls, Idaho; Joyce (Mark) Houghton of Mears, Michigan; Kenneth Thurston of Ohio; many nieces and nephews. Stanley was preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Lillian and by his brother, Arthur Thurston. Following his wishes, cremation has taken place and private memorial services will be held at the family home at a later date.
